Terracotta Warriors

The Terracotta Warriors were built for the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang.
Date back to 210 BC discovered in 1974, Lintong District, Xi'an Shaanxi  Province.   The warriors vary in sizes from large to small the largest being the generals.  Besides the warriors you will find chariots, horses, officials, acrobats and musicians.

The Cubic Houses

The building began in 1974 the cubes tilt at 45 degrees resting on hexagon-shaped pylon.  The vision was a village, the house a tree and together a forest.

Mayan Calendar

Dates back to 5th Century BCE.
Also known as the Sun Rock.  Museum of Anthropoly, Mexico City.
The Mayan calendar is a hieroglyphic, complex time tracker with a 260 day count called a Tzolkin, which combines with a 365 day count called the Haab.  The calendar ends on December 21, 2012, marking an end to a 5,126 year era.  Many people believe it is the end of the world.  Doomsday? Apocalypse 2012?  It all really depends on the person you are asking.

Leaning Tower of Pisa

Located in Tuscany, Italy.  Construction began in August 8, 1173 and took about 177 years to finish.  Free standing bell tower, made of white marble campanile.  Height 183.27 ft.  There are 294 to 296 steps depending on which of the two staircases you decide to take.  The tower leans, that is after it was renovated, at 3.99 degrees.  It began sinking when the second floor was started.  This was do to the set being weak and unstable soil.

Burj Khalifa Skyscraper

Designed by Chicago's Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP (SOM), Chief designer Adrian Smith and Chief structural engineer Bill Baker.
The inspiration derived from Islamic architecture and the Hymenocallis, desert flower, whose petals come out of the stem like the towers extend from it's center core.  Made primarily of concrete, steel and glass.
Officially opened January 4, 2010.
This beautiful structure hold 13 records including tallest, free standing building in the world.

Built for Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite 3rd wife, Mumtaz Mahal.  It is a mausoleum made of white marble.  A wonderful example of Mughal architecture, and elements of Persian, Turkish and Indian architecture.
